IPTV EPG Guide: Set Up the TV Programme Guide
The EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) shows what is on now and next for each channel. This guide explains what the EPG is and how to enable it in popular IPTV players.
What is an IPTV EPG?
An IPTV EPG is the on-screen TV guide that lists current and upcoming programmes for each channel. It is delivered as an XMLTV data file that your IPTV player matches to your channel list. With Trex OTT, the guide loads automatically in most apps; if it is missing, you usually just need to enable EPG or refresh the data in the player settings.
How to enable the EPG
- Open your IPTV player and go to settings.
- Find the EPG, TV Guide or XMLTV option.
- If your app uses the Xtream Codes API, the guide is usually included automatically once you log in.
- If your app uses an M3U playlist, add the EPG (XMLTV) URL provided with your subscription.
- Save, then refresh or reload the EPG data.
- Open the guide view to confirm now/next information appears per channel.
For login methods, see the Xtream Codes API guide and the M3U playlist guide.
EPG troubleshooting
- Guide is empty: refresh the EPG data and wait a minute for it to download.
- Wrong times: set the correct time zone in the player and your device.
- Some channels missing data: not every channel publishes guide data; this is normal.
- Guide not updating: clear the app cache and reload the playlist or re-login.
- Mismatch: make sure the EPG source matches the playlist you are using.
App notes
Most popular IPTV players support EPG, including grid-style guides and now/next overlays. Apps that use the Xtream Codes login generally pull the guide automatically, while playlist-based apps need the XMLTV URL entered once. If your guide still does not appear after refreshing, contact support with your app name and we will confirm the correct settings.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to set up the EPG manually?
Usually not. With an Xtream Codes login the guide loads automatically. With an M3U playlist you add the XMLTV URL once.
Why is my guide empty?
The data may still be downloading, the time zone may be wrong, or the EPG needs a refresh. Reload the guide and check your time zone settings.
Why do some channels have no guide?
Not every channel publishes EPG data. Missing entries on a few channels is normal and does not affect playback.
How often does the EPG update?
Most players refresh the guide automatically every several hours; you can also refresh it manually in settings.
